Rwanda WCE Kawa Yacu
This special coffee comes from the Women Coffee Extension (WCE) at the Mbizi Coffee Washing Station in Rwanda. Founded in 2017 by Aline Christine and Odette Uwamariya, WCE is a cooperative that empowers female specialty coffee producers. It has over 700 members.
WCE focuses on education and support, offering family planning, nutrition programs, agriculture training, and livestock to its members. These efforts have improved many lives, increasing coffee production from 3 kg to 4 kg per tree and boosting green coffee output from 3 to 6 containers.
WCE aims to expand its programs, including obtaining Rain Forest certification to raise coffee prices. Future goals include providing livestock to all members, offering health insurance, establishing a sewing center for job creation, and building a nursery school for local children.
